valley on fire…

I spent last weekend at a charity event in Hinterglemm, Austria. The weather was amazing and the one rain we did have happened during sunset and lit up the valley and sky like nothing I had ever seen. As hard as something like that is to capture with a camera, you can get a little bit of an idea how beautiful it was…

Valley on Fire

christmastime already…

I see it everywhere already…it seems as though here in the US Christmas is pushed at you right after Halloween. What happened to Thanksgiving people?? Anyhow, moving on. Even though Munich winters leave something to be desired for me as far as weather goes, there is one thing I am looking forward to… that festive month leading up to the Christmas holiday.

Gluhwein, holiday markets, Tollwood, and downtown decorations really make that month of December quite bearable. Cities all around Europe decorate for the holiday season, but in my humble opinion, the Germans and Austrians really do things up right. For the weeks leading up to Christmas, it’s like a little holiday wonderland in these areas and I love it.

This year will be only my second time being in Munich for the holiday season, so I am looking forward to capturing a bit more of the festivities. Here are a couple of my favorites from Munich and around!

the karwendel mountains…

I’ve been getting more and more into hiking over the past few months…(Not sure what took me so long actually) Anyhow though, last weekend a good friend of mine took me to my first over-night hike in the beautiful Karwendel Mountains. It was amazing. Despite having sort of missed the apparently amazing foliage of the Ahornboden Valley, which as we find out only lasts about a week in the mountains, we did manage to see some beautiful changing leaves as well as some absolutely stunning views from above during our hike up.

I am hooked on this Alpine hiking. The fresh mountain air, exercise, and great photo opportunities…what more could I ask for?

roadtrip…

After our visit to beautiful Lake Garda, my husband and I drove North through the Dolomites (Val di Fuenes) and then onward t’ward Neukirchen in Austria. It was probably one of the most beautiful drives we’d ever been on and I wish we could have spent a week in this area alone taking it all in. Unfortunately we were a little pressed for time, so I didn’t get to explore quite a much as I would have liked to.

I know I say this a lot, but these photographs don’t truly do this area of the world any justice. I guess I feel that way often when photographing mountain landscapes. I think it’s difficult to capture the majestic feeling you get when you are actually standing there and it takes an amazing photographer to do so….

Anyhow, gave it my best and here are a few images from our  drive. Hope you enjoy…
