flourish flower farm | asheville, nc

This past week I had the honor of photographing a workshop held on Flourish Flower Farm just north of Asheville, NC. I had been following Niki’s instagram page for some time so when I was able to go to her farm and capture the magic of her beautiful space, I was so excited! The people who visit her farm all seem to have the same reaction…pure joy. I heard it again and again from her workshop attendee’s, “I just feel so happy here!!”

And it’s no wonder. Her space, her flowers, and just her general presence is enough to make anyone feel amazing. She hosts workshops, arranges flowers for weddings and elopements, and provides fresh flowers for local stores. Here is her website if you are ever in need of flower therapy ♡

These are some of the images from that day…

fall in the dolomites.

Sometimes it is difficult having your friends scattered out all over the globe. There are times when I feel a little sad that I cannot see a particular person whenever I want and wish that I could just move everyone together in one spot. But then there are times like this weekend a few weeks ago, where I was able to meet up with a friend in a beautiful location and have an amazing time visiting a new place together.

It is those times I remember to live in the moment.

I met Christine at a food photography workshop in Tuscany and a few weeks ago we met again and spent the weekend in the beautiful Val di Funes in the Dolomites located in South Tyrol. We got very lucky and had unbelievable fall weather for the entire weekend. We hiked, ate, and relaxed in the sauna. It could not have been more perfect.

Thanks again to my friend for a lovely weekend and I’m looking forward to our date in NYC soon!

summer veggie bruschetta.

This is by no means a food blog, but my love of food and cooking certainly inspires my photography at times. After attending Aran and Nadia’s workshop in Italy I find myself wanting to explore food photography even more as well as document some of the things I create in the kitchen. (I tend to forget some really good things I’ve made!)

So this week I had a bunch of summer veggies I needed to use up and this is what I came up with… and let me tell you, it was really really good.

Summerveggies

This recipe could obviously be moderated in many ways, but here is what I did:

Ingredients:

-Italian bread

-1 eggplant

-2 zucchini

-1 large onion

-1 can tomatoes

-olive oil

-salt and pepper

-crumbled goat cheese and basil for garnish

First I sliced and salted the eggplant to release some of the bitter juices. Set aside. Then diced the onion and zucchini and put in oven safe dish. After about 20 minutes I dried the eggplant and diced it as well adding it to the other veggies. I tossed the veggies with olive oil, salt and pepper and cooked them in the oven for about 30 minutes at 350 degrees (stirring about every 10 minutes). When they were just about done I added the can of tomatoes and cooked for another 5 minutes.

Afterwards I grilled (or toasted) thick slices of day old Italian bread and topped the bread with veggie mixture, crumbled goat cheese and fresh basil. A fairly simple dish but with really amazing flavor! Not to mention a great way to use up some of your veggies :)

inspiration…

This past week I attended a photography workshop in Tuscany hosted by the lovely women of Cannelle et Vanille and La Porte Rouge.  While I had been very excited about the whole trip and learning more about my trade, I could not have imagined the inspiration that would come from Nadia and Aran…as well as the other amazing women who attended.

I cannot wait to share the stories from Tuscany in the spring, the food, and the people I met. I went there for a better understanding of food photography and styling, but left with so so much more….
